General Craft Hire Information
Children 8 yrs + should be accompanied and supervised by a responsible and competent adult. Children 6 yrs + should share a double-kayak, SUP or dinghy with an adult. If in doubt ask for our instructor prices.
Dinghy Hire can only be offered where sufficient adult customers are willing and able to help launch and recover a Safety Boat. We need at least four adults to launch and recover a RIB. Dinghy hire is only available to competent independent sailors. As a guide, this means those who have completed RYA Stage Three, Level Two or equivalent. Dinghy sailors are expected to rig, launch, recover with minimal assistance from our staff. Sailors must wear buoyancy aids and helmets, and be confident to recover their boat from a capsize.
Paddle Hire (SUP and Kayak) includes a briefing on local conditions and hazards but does not include instruction or safety cover. Customers should be competent to recover from a capsize or fall. All paddlers must be wear buoyancy aids and be water confident (swim 50 m). They should keep close (50 m) to shore unless they are entirely confident that they can self rescue in deeper water. For individuals, this means that they are able to swim unaided to shore with their craft (150m), or for groups this means that they keep close together and understand how to help other paddlers recover. SUPers should attach their lanyard, kneel whilst launching and stand only when the water is deep enough to avoid hitting the botton if they fall. Helmets are advised for shallow water paddling.
